The Impact of Sugared Beverages on Obesity
Numerous studies have identified a strong link between obesity and the consumption of beverages containing large amounts of added sugar and lend support to the use of a tax to provide an economic incentive for consumers to choose healthier, lower-calorie beverages.
Many states including New York have considered a tax on sugary beverages as a way of reducing obesity. To date, the New York State Legislature has failed to adopt the measure.
